Investigates longitudinal associations between civic engagement and socio-emotional and financial outcomes

Anthony Sciola is an MA2 student in the School/Applied Child Psychology program at McGill University under the supervision of Dr. Derevensky and Dr. Geoffroy. Anthony received his BA in Psychology with Distinction from Long Island University – Brooklyn in 2020. During his undergraduate studies, Anthony worked as a research assistant in the PRIDECo lab under the supervision of Dr. Saunders.

Anthony’s current and past research interests focuses on addictions, youth mental health, high risk behaviours and suicide. For instance, his MA project uses the National Collegiate Athletic Association – National Study on Collegiate Wagering to gain insight on how college student-athletes’ gambling behaviours and attitudes have changed over the past 16 years. His doctoral thesis will use both the Quebec Longitudinal Study of Child Development (QLSCD) and the Quebec Longitudinal Study of Kindergarten Children (QLSKC) to (a) examine the longitudinal associations between civic engagement and socio-emotional outcomes in early adulthood and (b) examine the longitudinal associations between civic engagement and financial outcomes in middle adulthood.

His career goal is to become a clinician and provide intervention services for adolescents and youths who suffer from addiction and mental health issues.
